So, a friend of mine just gave me his PS3 and it was working just fine. I went to update it to the new update 4.84 or something or other, and now it's stuck on an update loop. Does anyone know a fix for it that doesn't involve taking the HDD and formating it etc? I need help. I'm not familiar with the PS3 hardware. Its a fatboi (original lol) 82GB.
Plug into windows, click start and type dskmgmt.msc. Find the hdd, right click and delete the partition. It should show a black bar. Let the PS3 handle the formatting. First you need to format your hdd, you can stick it in another ps3 or connect it to your pc with a sata to usb cable.

I've a generic ps4 controller because the original is not working and my ps4 doesn't get out of the Safe Mode, the issue is that it doesn't recognize the generic controller because of the safe mode (i suppose), and without the original controller i can't press the ps4 home button to start with the reinstallation. Stuck in safe mode with a third party controller So I recently got a new SSD for my PS3 however I don't have the official Sony controller and my third party remote doesn't have a USB port to plug in.
PS3 tried updating to newest OFW, but now is stuck on installing @99%. I have to unplug it or it'll be stuck indefinitely. This is a slim ps3, CECH-2501A. I did the safe mode recovery sequence, doesn't work. Goes straight to update process. I don't mind replacing the HDD, which would cancel the update process.
Start your PS4 console in Safe Mode: press and hold the power button, releasing after the second beep. Select Update System Software. Select Update from USB Storage Device > OK. If your PS4 console does not recognize the update file, check that the folder names and file name are correct. Enter the folder names and file name using uppercase letters.
